Free Teleseminar

I am pleased to announce that I will be interviewed by Dr. Lori-Ann Gertonson this Thursday night at 7:00.

Dr. Lori-Ann Gertonson is founder of the Gertonson Institute and Self Help Movement Teleseminar Series. Each month she feature a different guest speak to offer free education to the community on health and wellness. The program’s goal is to help empower and inspire people to take charge of their lives, their health, and their sense of well-being.

This month, for Valentine’s Day, Dr. Gertonson will be interviewing me on what makes a “healthy” relationship. During the interview I will be offering my thoughts and understandings about how to strengthen your relationship by working together as a team to create and uphold values such as fairness, mutuality, accessibility, responsiveness, and compassion. I will also address the common pitfalls that couples run into and how to recognize when your relationship is heading down the wrong.

Again, the seminar is free to all that register. I’d love it if you’d join us.

Communication Skills Class Starts In One Month

August 20th, 2012

Looking to communicate better with your partner?

Knowing how to communicate properly can mean the difference between success and failure in a relationship. Problems build up slowly over time and eventually lead to feelings of disconnection and resentment in a relationship.

Safe guard your relationship today!

Oakland Couples Counseling is offering an eight-week relationship class.

The Hold Me Tight Program: Seven Conversations for Building Connection and Overcoming Conflict.

This “communication skills” class is designed to help couples examine what goes wrong in their attempts to communicate with each other and how to move from arguments to intimacy.

The class uses Sue Johnson’s book, Hold Me Tight; Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love. (Required text.) Each evening, we will cover a chapter of Sue’s book. The class will examine a “Healthy Attachment” view of love that explains how feeling supported, accepted and understood by one’s partner positively affects one’s mood, health, and longevity.

Based on this new model of love and health, the class will help couples determine how they “get off track” when they argue and give them the skills to get their conversations and relationships “back on track.”

Couples taking this class will:

  • Learn how your communication goes off track.
  • Identify the raw spots and triggers in your relationship.
  • Discover the deeper feelings and needs beneath the arguments.
  • Learn what makes your partner tick and how to deal with hurt feelings
  • Build a greater sense of confidence, security, and trust in your relationship
  • Improve your ability to connect emotionally, intellectually, and sexually.
  • Create a shared vision of the future together.

For more information about this class you can visit the workshop page of my website. Or, contact me directly at 510 499-7137, or at ctoondermft [at] gmail.com.

Dates and Times:

Thursday night from September 20 thru November 8th, 2012

Classes run from 7:00PM to 9:00PM

Location:

Classes are held at the McKinnon Body Therapy Center.

2940 Webster Street, Oakland, CA

The Hold Me Tight Program: Seven Conversations for Building Connection and Overcoming Conflict program is not for couples struggling with domestic violence, affairs, addiction, or severe mental health issues.

Communication Skills Class: The Hold Me Tight Program: Seven Conversations for Building Connection and Overcoming Conflict.

July 26th, 2012

Looking to improve your communication skills?

Oakland Couples Counseling is pleased to announce the Fall 2012, The Hold Me Tight Program: Seven Conversations for Building Connection and Overcoming Conflict.

This “communication skills” class is designed to help couples examine what goes wrong in their attempts to communicate with each other and how to move from arguments to intimacy.

The class uses Sue Johnson’s book, Hold Me Tight; Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love. (Required text.) Dedicating each evening to a chapter in Sue’s book, the class will examine a new understanding of love that breaks from the belief that needing support, acceptance and understanding from one’s partner is somehow “wrong” or “bad.” Instead, new science studies will be presented demonstrating how the quality of connection that exists between two people has dramatic affects on health, stress, and longevity.

Based on this new model of love and health, the class will help couples determine how they “get off track” when they argue and give them the skills to communicate in a much more meaningful and productive manner.
